Why Peter Bergman thinks Jack and Victor rivalry will last forever: “They’re oil and water”
Peter Bergman and Victor Newman’s rivalry on the Young and the Restless is almost as old as the show. For decades, the bitter rivals have done horrible things to each other. Their personal and professional animosity towards each other is what drives the show. But is there a chance that these two will ever bury the hatchet? Jack shocked Victor and the fans at home watching when he offered to buy him a drink recently. Jack actor Peter Bergman talked to Soaps.com about the long standing rivalry between Jack and Victor and revealed why they have always been at odds with each other. Here’s what Peter had to say.
A look back on Jack-Victor feud
The Newman Abbott feud on the Young and the Restless has lasted forever, involving many screaming matches and even throwing chairs. Jack and Victor’s relationship took a turn for the worse when Victor took control of Jack’s family business, Jabot Cosmetics.
Luckily, Jack managed to get the company back. Jack and Victor also fought for Nikki’s attention but she always seemed to choose Victor over Jack.
Let’s not forget the stunt Victor pulled in 2014 when Jack was kidnapped by Kelly Andrews. Victor replaced Jack with his doppelganger, Marco Annicelli, who was a notorious drug lord and caused all sorts of trouble for Jack.

Peter Bergman says Victor and Jack are like oil and water
Talking about the recent moment of truce between the two, Peter shared that he doesn’t really know if they will continue to be civil. According to Peter, Jack realizes that Victor has more experience with failing as a father than Jack. Peter continued
“The very thing that Jack has thrown in Victor’s face repeatedly over the years, he’s now hoping that Victor has learned something of value that he can share.”
However, the actor did say that even if Jack and Victor can get on the same page, he doesn’t think they can stay on it because they are like oil and water. And their belief that they are so different from each other is what stands in their way again and again.
Peter says,
“ Essentially, to Victor, Jack is this silver-spooned brat who had it all handed to him and wants to talk like he wasn’t born on third base. Conversely, Jack sees Victor as new money, someone who buys his way into things…he’s not part of the fabric of the community to Jack. He hasn’t done the work. And therein lies oil and water.”
Peter Bergman is grateful for the epic rivalry
Fans love seeing Jack and Victor at each other’s throats and so does Peter Bergman. He told Soaps.com,
“I love that I am part of one of the oldest enmities in the history of television, if not the oldest.”
He shared that he is proud of their relationship and grateful to his onscreen rival Eric Braden.
Peter has always been appreciative of the enduring rivalry between these two characters. Talking to Michael Fairman TV in 2019, he said,
“ I knew very early on that Victor Newman’s presence in Jack’s life made Jack a more interesting character. I fully understood that and a great credit to Eric Braeden and what he and I got to establish together.”
While they may be friends for now, do you think that we will see a Jack-Victor feud on the show again?
