For all Blue Bloods fans, we’ve got exciting news for you today. We’re getting a series spin off and not only that, some fan favorite characters are joining in as well.

Is Blue Bloods cancelled?

For 14 seasons, Blue Bloods ruled Friday nights, making it a fan-favorite crime drama. With Tom Selleck leading the charge as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, alongside Donnie Wahlberg’s tough-as-nails Detective Danny Reagan and Will Estes’ level-headed Sergeant Jamie Reagan, the show consistently delivered strong ratings. In fact, it was one of the top five scripted series year after year.

Debuting on CBS on September 24, 2010, Blue Bloods wrapped up its impressive run on December 13, 2024. But when the network announced that Season 14 would be the final chapter, it didn’t sit well with fans, or the cast.

Tom Selleck, in particular, wasn’t shy about expressing his disappointment. Initially convinced CBS would “come to its senses” and reverse the cancellation, he later admitted to feeling “frustrated” that the network seemed to take the show’s success for granted.

In an interview with TV Insider, Selleck said that any network would jump at the chance to have a show rule Friday nights for 15 years, no matter how bad the time slot was. “My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go,” he said.

But despite the backlash, CBS stuck to its decision. Network president Amy Reisenbach made it clear in May 2024 that the move wasn’t personal, stating, “ All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule.”

But don’t worry, even though we’re not getting Blue Bloods back, the good news is we’re getting a Blue Bloods spin-off! Just two months after the series finale, the network announced an exciting spin-off series, Boston Blue!

Blue Bloods Spinoff Confirmed

The show follows Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan’s story, only this time, he’s trading in the NYPD for the Boston Police Department. Of course, this is big news for Danny fans, especially those who followed his partnership with Maria Baez, played by Marisa Ramirez, throughout Blue Bloods. So, what’s going to happen to that relationship? Well, things could get complicated.

In the spin-off, Danny will team up with Detective Lena Peters, who’s is described as the eldest daughter of a well-respected law enforcement family.

So, it looks like Danny will be teaming up with someone who knows a thing or two about living in the shadow of a powerful police family.  But the big question on everyone’s mind is, what about Maria Baez? Will Danny and Baez stay together, or will they go their separate ways?

Will Danny and Baez Break Up in Blue Bloods Spinoff

There are a couple of ways the show could handle this. First, they might decide to have Danny and Baez break up, which would allow Danny to start fresh in Boston and explore a potential romantic connection with Lena. Or, the show could go the more dramatic route and kill off Baez, though, let’s be honest, that would definitely cause quite a mess among the fans.

But if Baez is still alive and together with Danny, we could see her make a guest appearance in Boston Blue to tie up any loose ends in her relationship with Danny. So, there’s still hope for all the “Dannie” shippers out there!

As for Tom Selleck, don’t hold your breath for him to join the spin-off as Commissioner Reagan just yet. Given his previous statement bashing the show, with how Blue Bloods ended, it seems unlikely he’ll reprise his role.

But, hey, we could be wrong. So we just gotta wait for  the official casting announcements.  But hey, the spin-off is set to debut sometime during the 2025-2026 broadcast season, so who knows what surprises the writers have in store!
