There’s a little hope for the Hudson and Rex fans because rumors have it we’re getting a season 8 and in fact filming’s about to start too. But is it really happening and is John Reardon really leaving the show?
Is John Reardon Leaving Hudson & Rex?
Season 7 of Hudson and Rex officially wrapped on March 11, 2025, and wow, it was a rollercoaster ride! First, we found out that Johnny Reardon, the actor behind Detective Charlie, had been diagnosed with cancer, which was tough enough.
Then, just as if things couldn’t get worse, we had to say goodbye to Diesel, the beloved dog star who plays Rex, midway through the season.
On top of that, we barely saw Charlie since episode 2, and then they hit us with a major gut punch at the end of Season 7 when they left us hanging with Charlie getting shot and his body nowhere to be found in the water.
Like it was a lot for us fans to handle and we’re still processing it all. But while the ending was as heartbreaking as it was, we had a little hope too.
Remember when Sarah told Rex that he’d be seeing a lot of her again? Well, the word we’re stuck on is again. That probably means there’s going to be a new season right?
Plus, we have the new detective, Mark too! And looking at the ending, it seems like when Sarah was away trying to find Charlie, Mark was taking care of Rex. Surely there’s more to that story, right?
Hudson and Rex Season 8 Release Date
Word on the street is that Hudson and Rex will start filming Season 8 in May 2025 and wrap up by the end of July.
I mean, that’s what the fans have been saying on Social media. Although, there still hasn’t been any official word from the show itself.
But if we were to look at the last time the show was renewed, the official announcement was made in June and the filming took place from end June to October 2024.
If the show really does get renewed, the announcement will probably be made in April.

Hudson and Rex is also not available on HBO Max. So far there is no information about DVD release for Season 8.
As for the cast, expect all your favorite crime solving team to be back. Mayko Nguyen as Sarah, Kevin Hanchard as Joe, Justin Kelly as Jesse and Luke J Roberts as Mark. Meanwhile, Diesel’s nephews, Dillion and Dante stepping in as Rex.
As for Reardon, we’re still waiting for the official word from him. So far, things are looking positive and we have a strong feeling he’ll be back if Hudson and Rex get another season.
