Is Eric Braeden leaving Y&R soon?
Victor’s life on The Young and the Restless has been anything but a cakewalk, from facing off with Jordan, to holding the family together during chaos. and now grappling with Nikki’s battle against addiction. It’s been a real rollercoaster for the character. Yet, just like Victor Newman, for Eric Braeden, resilience seems to be the name of the game.
In real life, Eric Braeden has been transparent about his own war against bladder cancer, bravely sharing the entire journey from diagnosis to the twists and turns of treatment. The turning point arrived in August, when he joyfully declared himself officially cancer-free, during a Facebook Live session. With a heartfelt message, he reassured fans, stating, “So I just wanted you to know, that as of a few days ago, I’m cancer free. They couldn’t find the damn thing. So thank you for all of your good thoughts. All of your prayers meant a great deal to me.”
Yet, the shadow of cancer’s potential return looms over even the strongest spirits. However, Eric Braeden, the real-life warrior, decided to combat that fear head-on. How did he do it? With an infectious rhythm and positive energy, he danced his way through a video, grooving to Everything But the Girl’s ’90s hit song, “Missing!” On January 15, Braeden basically posted the video to show everyone that he is well and thriving. He even added a powerful caption to the video, declaring, “Feeling better and better. F you, cancer!”

Eric Braeden health update 2024
Now throughout this journey, fans have been worried sick thinking he was going to retire. I mean he is 83 years old, so it was normal for fans to see his potential retirement, especially after the cancer diagnosis, but Braeden is not done rocking his alter ego. He still has a lot of energy and passion left in him that keeps him going as Victor Newman.
In an interview with Fox News, back in August 2023, when he was asked about his retirement plans, Braeden quickly responded saying, “No, hell no, no, no.” Now if that doesn’t sound convincing, what will? Braeden isn’t letting cancer throw in the towel on his career. In the interview, he humorously dismissed the idea of retiring, stating that he’s witnessed friends and colleagues retire, and struggle with the question of “now what? Pickleball?”
Despite having a successful career, spanning almost a hundred TV shows and numerous movies since 1961, Braeden emphasized that retirement never crossed his mind due to the steady paycheck and, more importantly, his genuine enjoyment of the work.” The more profound answer is that I enjoy doing what I’m doing. I really do. I still feel very good about it,” he said. The feeling of satisfaction after doing a scene is what has him going, and it’s something he still loves till date.
Oh and did we mention his ride-or-die, Dale Russell Gudegast, has been there for over 50 years? Through health rollercoasters and mood swings, she’s been the real MVP. Braeden even shared his secret for the long lasting marriage, and it’s not just about tolerance and acceptance, “But the enduring thing is really liking and respecting the person. That’s really what it’s all about.”
So there you have it. Expect to see Braeden for more years to come, cause he is not going anywhere. And don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments below.
