Sheila Carter is alive but who did Steffy Forrester Kill that night?
Who is Kyle Abbott? What happened to him on Y&R?
Kyle Abbott has had a long history on The Young and the Restless with a few recasts along the way. Garrett Ryan first portrayed the character as a young child in February 2010. Then, in March 2012, the character underwent a classic soap aging and was portrayed by Blake Hood. After a year, Hartley Sawyer took over the role, but his tenure was short-lived, lasting only eight months until January 2014. Lachlan Buchanan was the next to take on the role, but he made his final appearance in April 2016. In March 2018, Michael Mealor became the fourth adult actor to play the Abbott heir, but he announced his departure in July 2021. But then in March 2022, it was revealed that Mealor would be returning to Y&R as a full-time cast and now the rest is history.
Kyle was first introduced as Christian Victor Newman, but like most of the kids out there in Genoa City, he also had a little daddy confusion. Back in the day Diane Jenkins decided to take matters into her own hands and stole Victor Newman’s frozen sperm to have a baby with him. However, Nikki tampered with the samples, revealing that Jack Abbott was the real father of the child. Diane named the baby Kyle, and Jack fought for custody but he lost. However, Diane’s criminal antics gave them an edge, and they finally got custody. That is until Jack caved and sent Kyle packing with Diane.
In 2010, Kyle returned to Genoa City with his mom, giving him a chance to connect with his father. During this time, Jack and Diane were investigated for fraud by the SEC. Diane had plans to fake her own death but was actually murdered. Jack brought Kyle home, but Victor revealed custody papers giving him rights to the boy. This infuriated Jack, leading him to send Kyle off to boarding school once again.
When Kyle came back as an adult, he was a bit upset with his dad for hooking up with Nikki Newman, who Kyle thought was to blame for his mom’s death. Kyle shacked up with Victor and started dating Eden Baldwin. But when Victor went AWOL and Sharon took over the ranch, Kyle moved back in with his dad. Learning of Jack’s pain medication abuse, Kyle leaked the story to the press to urge his father to seek help. Jack handed him a job at Jabot, where Kyle met Summer Newman. They clicked, but Jack and Phyllis got spooked, knowing that Summer was actually Jack’s kid, so Kyle and Summer were like half siblings. Phyllis tried to keep Kyle away from Summer, but her game got busted when it came out that Sharon had pulled a switcheroo on Summer’s paternity test. Then, Kyle got caught up in some crazy corporate drama before heading off to work for Jabot in New York.
When Kyle made a comeback in 2015, it was murder, murder, murder. Everyone side-eyed him when he rolled back into town, especially because his sister Summer’s hubby, Austin, got offed. Kyle swore he didn’t do it—sure, they had a little tussle after he found out Austin cheated on Summer with Abby Newman, but murder? Nah. The plot thickened when Courtney ended up dead too. The teens spilled all to the cops, and guess who the real murderer was? Detective Mark Harding. Crazy, right? But at least the mystery got solved.

During all that drama, Kyle and Summer finally realized they weren’t related and could have a proper relationship, but they eventually fizzled out when Kyle moved to New York for work, and the long-distance thing just didn’t work out. By the time he came back, Summer was with Luca, and when Kyle tried to warn her about him, she refused to listen. But when Luca’s true colors were exposed, Kyle left town again.
Kyle came back home in 2018 to find his father in jail for Victor’s attempted murder. He took over at Jabot and planned to sell the company to Victor, but Jack stopped him. Kyle then began to rebuild his relationship with his family, helping Jack discover his real father’s identity and bringing them closer together.
Then comes a new girl in GC, Lola Rosales stealing Kyle’s heart right away. Kyle’s romance with Lola started off a bit rocky due to their different backgrounds, but they made it work once they accepted each other. Unfortunately, Summer came back to Genoa City and tried to lure Kyle away from Lola, offering him the one thing Lola wouldn’t — sex. Despite Summer’s advances, Kyle stayed faithful to Lola. When Lola needed a liver transplant, Kyle agreed to marry Summer for a year in exchange for being the donor.
After Lola got better, Kyle couldn’t resist being with her and they finally made love. Summer was livid when Kyle broke off their agreement and ended their marriage. Kyle proposed to Lola, but their wedding was interrupted by Theo Vanderway, who had an explosive secret from their past that could ruin everything. It turned out that a young and underage woman had to be rushed to the hospital after a party and Kyle had paid off her father to keep it quiet. And Theo brought the girl, Zoe, to Kyle and Lola’s wedding, causing chaos.
Kyle and Summer renewed their vows with Tucker McCall’s surprise gift of a Bentley, but after learning Diane’s ties to Tucker and Jeremy Stark, Kyle took it upon himself to protect his mother. This decision led to a conflict between Kyle and Summer, as they each defended their own mothers. Their relationship was further strained when Kyle secretly collaborated with Victor to remove Adam from Jabot. Kyle admitted his deception to Summer, pledging to make amends.
Kyle felt conflicted when Jack and Diane’s engagement was announced, particularly after Phyllis’ untimely death. Summer blamed Diane for her mother’s death, exacerbating tensions between her and Kyle. Kyle was shocked to discover Phyllis had faked her death and that Summer was aware of it but kept it from Diane.
After ending things with Summer, Kyle engaged in a passionate fling with Audra Charles, ultimately becoming entangled in her dealings with Tucker to usurp Jabot. Despite initially contemplating siding with Tucker, Kyle ultimately chose his family over any potential betrayal. Kyle was disappointed and envious when Jack appointed Diane co-CEO of Jabot, a position Kyle had hoped to fill himself.
