Jordi Vilasuso’s real-life wife (Kaitlyn Vilasuso) and on-screen wife (Sharon Case) react to Rey Rosales’ off-screen death on Y&R
Jordi Vilasuso’s run on Y&R came to an end last week. After four years of playing the role of Rey Rosales on the show, Jordi was written out with his character dying off-screen in a car wreck. While this shocking plot twist has left fans heartbroken, there are a couple of people who are affected the most by it. And they are Sharon Case, Jordi’s on-screen wife, and Kaitlyn Vilasuso, the actor’s wife in real life. What do they have to say about Rey Rosales’s demise on Y&R? Let’s find out.
Sharon’s reaction to Rey Rosales’ death news got her trending on Twitter
After Rey’s death on Y&R, Soap Hub had a chance to chat with Sharon Case at the Hollywood Museum last week. Sharon and other soap actors had gathered there to honor Kate Linder on her 40th anniversary as Y&R’s Esther Valentine.
In case you missed the previous episode, Sharon learned of her husband’s demise through Nick. He arrived at Crimson Lights where she was waiting to hear from Rey. As she put on the coffee for Nick she talked about all the baking she had done for her husband. Nick finally broke his silence and told Sharon “There’s something I need to tell you.” But before Nick said another word, Sharon already knew.
“Just give me a minute,” Sharon said as she sensed something was terribly wrong. Nick confirmed her fear was legit and she started sobbing.
The line “just give me a minute” left a great impact on the viewers. It was heartbreaking as well as powerful. Sharon was even trending on Twitter as fans could not help but discuss Sharon’s reaction to this whole Rey’s death situation.
Case was overwhelmed by the response from her fans and felt grateful at the same time. “I’m so humbled. It feels amazing. I want to say thank you to everyone who made that possible,” she said.
“A lot of the fans loved that line. It was written that Sharon sensed something was wrong. As the hours went by, it just seemed that she was almost sure something was wrong. There was only a tiny bit of hope still in her when Nick walked in.”
Even if it’s fictional, death scenes are never easy for actors. So when Case found out that her character had to deal with Rey’s death, she began preparing herself weeks ahead.
“[Those scenes in Crimson Lights] were incredibly hard. They took focus and preparation – for weeks. I never say that, but this time it really did.”
Kaitlyn Vilasuso agrees Rey Rosales deserved better than that
While Sharon was absorbing the news of Rey’s death, Jordi Vilasuso and his real-life spouse Kaitlyn also discussed the turn of events on their podcast, Making It Work, last Wednesday.
Even as Jordi bid goodbye to Rey, he and Kaitlyn were still dealing with the twist that had just unfolded on the screen. “I was actually looking through Twitter today and it was nice to hear some of those thoughts echoed. Because it was a little shocking,” Kaitlyn said. “It was what it was. But it’s really nice that people are saying, ‘Rey deserved better than that! Sweet Rey,” she added.

Even though Y&R did Jordi and his character dirty, Vilasuso shows no sign of animus towards the show. He has said before and repeated in the latest podcast as well that he is nothing but grateful. He continued to share how much love he received from his co-stars, including Peter Bergman, who actually called him on the phone to say goodbye.
“He was so encouraging, it was beautiful what he said. He was sorry that he couldn’t say goodbye [in person]. And we hardly worked together, because Jack and Rey rarely crossed paths,” Vilasuso pointed.
As Kaitlyn says, it is what it is. Rey is no longer on Y&R and apparently, there’s no hope for his return as well. How will this make a difference in Sharon’s life? Keep tuning in with us for updates.
