Jordi Vilasuso reveals why he’s been fired from Young and the Restless in his latest podcast episode
It has come as a big shock to everyone that Jordi Vilasuso has been ousted from Y&R, a show that had been his second home for the past four years. The news came on the heels of Jordi and his wife Kaitlyn announcing their new project together last week. What exactly went down between Jordi and Y&R that led to this unexpected casting shuffle? Let’s see what Jordi has to say about this.
Rey Rosales was the last Rosales member in Genoa City
Jordi Vilasuso made his debut on Y&R on August 17, 2018. His character, detective Rey Rosales, had come from Miami to Genoa City to solve the then-famous case of J.T. Hellstrom’s mysterious disappearance.

Rey was the first Rosales member to land in GC, following which his siblings Arturo and Lola, wife Mia, and mom Celeste also arrived in town. But one after another everyone left. Arturo and Mia left together in early 2019 after a baby drama whereas Lola left last year after divorcing Kyle Abbott. Rey, who is the only Rosales in GC as of now, is also set to leave very soon.
Jordi confirmed his departure this week in an exclusive interview with Soap Opera Digest. Then he also took to Instagram to break the news to his followers.

Jordi Vilasuso had just signed a 3-year contract in October 2021
When Jordi first joined Y&R, he was only supposed to appear in limited episodes. Then he eventually signed a contract. It was only in October that he had signed another contract that offered him storylines through 2024. So if you were caught off guard by the news of Jordi’s firing, you weren’t alone.
In his latest podcast episode, Jordi revealed an important clause in his contract which is the most likely reason that he was let go from CBS daytime.

“I had re-signed [with Young & Restless] back in October for another three years,” he explained. “but in these contracts, there are six-month intervals where the show can decide not to resign you for the next six months. So that’s what happened.”
However, as the firing takes place, Jordi is surprised as there were indications that Rey’s position in GC was secure. The storylines had just started to shift from his and Sharon’s hopeless marriage to his and Chelsea’s potential pairing.
As Kaitlyn said in their podcast, “[Rey] and Melissa Claire Egan were excited about that.” And Jordi couldn’t agree more.“I’ve known Missy for over ten years and was finally getting to work with her!” he gushed.
Where is Jordi Vilasuso heading after exiting Y&R?
The actor admits that he should have seen the writing on the walls as he was receiving very minimal scripts these past months. However, he has no hard feelings for the showrunners. In fact, he is wildly optimistic about his future and says, “We have to embrace change and see what happens and be excited by the adventure because it’s an adventure at the end of the day. If we had all the answers, it would be kind of boring!”

Soap opera audience may know that Rey Rosales is the fourth soap role Jordi ever played. Before joining Y&R, he has played Tony in Guiding Light, Griffin in All My Children, and Dario in Days of Our Lives. Apparently, his stint on Y&R was the longest run he’s ever had on a show.
Where will Jordi Vilasuso head after Y&R? The actor is yet to determine. Make sure to tune in with us for more updates.

I am a fan of Y &R for years. Through the years there has been changes with character change. Had to get use to each one all the time. However, with you I liked you from the beginning you did a great job as Rey. Hate see you gone from the show. As I had grown to know you and your character Rey in the past 4 years. Wishing you and your family all the best in the future.
