Is it impossible to bring back Hunter King as Summer Newman on Y&R again?

Y&R is going through a major casting shuffle lately, with one after another bombshell character popping on the canvas. Last week, we saw the surprise return of Susan Walters as Taylor Jensen, shortly after which Y&R confirmed that Kyle Abbott is on his way back to GC as well. As we know Kyle left town to live with Summer in Italy. So when he returns, will Summer return too? Let’s find out.

Michael Mealor making a “long-term” return to Y&R after onscreen mom Susan Walters returns

We talked about Michael Mealor returning to Y&R in our previous video. In case you missed it, let us this mention real quick that Mealor is on his way to signing a deal with the soap, which reportedly is a “long-term” contract.

The news surfaced on the heels of Susan Walters’ surprise appearance on Y&R after more than a decade of leaving the soap. All this time, her character Diane Jenkins was supposed to be dead after a violent altercation went down between her and Nikki in 2011. But apparently, Diane had faked her death and been kicking around going by the name Taylor Jensen.

Taylor aka Diane made her first appearance on March 23 as someone who’s going to buy Keemo’s home in LA. New spoilers suggest that she will soon reveal her identity to Jack, which will surely blow him away.

Hunter King said she is open to returning to Y&R

Jack won’t surely be able to keep it to himself when he learns that Diane is still alive. Kyle will be the first person Jack most likely will spill the beans to. And that’s how Kyle’s return to GC will be staged. Now the question is – What will happen to Summer and Harrison after this? Of course, Summer has appeared with Kyle on the screen a few times since they departed the show last year. Now that Mealor is returning full-time, will King make a permanent return as well?

After King exited Y&R last year, she explained in her podcast with Soap Opera Digest that there were a variety of reasons why she had left. One of them was her not being able to crack a deal with the showrunners. Sources revealed that Michael’s decision to leave was also connected with failed contract negotiations. But less than a year later, Mealor seems to have renegotiated his contract and worked them out to return full-time.

We are yet to get any official update but Y&R may be in the process to strike a deal with King as well since she has told Digest that she is open to returning to the soap. She said that Y&R will always have a huge place in her heart and although she doesn’t know what the future holds, she will be happy to reprise her popular role.

Having said that, we are still not sure what Y&R has in mind for this fan-favorite character as it hasn’t made any comments regarding her so far. Y&R may or may not bring Summer back with Kyle but she sure will have scenes in the future even if it’s only via video calls. This still does not make it clear whether or not Hunter King will continue to play the part or not.

In her interview with Digest, King said that it was time for her to grow outside of Y&R. No wonder, she has landed a couple of new projects too. She is yet to land any long-term project. But if she does, there’s no way she would pull double duties at once, which means Y&R would have no choice but to recast this iconic character.
