Real reason why Kelly Kruger was fired from Y&R and how it changed her life forever!
The Young and the Restless and its sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, have often churned up excitement by borrowing characters from one another for crossovers. But it’s not always characters that these soaps exchange. There have been times when they have recycled actors too.
Actors like Don Diamont and Kelly Kruger have appeared on both the CBS soaps, playing different roles. Longtime viewers will remember, fans just adored Diamont for his captivating on-screen presence on Young and the Restless as Brad Carlton. After his character died, he immediately went on to become a star on Bold and the Beautiful.
Well, Diamont has been lucky enough to secure a role with longevity on the later soap but Kruger has a completely different story. Keep reading to know more.
Kelly Kruger lays bare her life after Y&R on Instagram
Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Kruger lived an ordinary life. That was before landing the role of Mackenzie Browning, the granddaughter of Katherine Chancellor, on Young and the Restless in 2002.
“I went from literally counting change to put gas in the car to being a very popular character on the number 1 soap opera. I was able to support my family and wake up every day and live my dream,” Kruger shared in her latest Instagram post.

The Y&R alum basically shared a “get ready with me” video but in the video, she shared some of her life secrets that she had never spoken about publicly in the past. The actress was high on life after securing the role of Mac. Unfortunately, when her character was written out in February 2003, it hit her hard. Although her exit was related to the storyline, Kruger took her firing “very personally.”
“I felt like a failure and like I was letting everybody who was counting on me down. I felt like I needed to get a job right away to put food on the table. So I got a job at my friend’s restaurant,” she confessed.

Kelly shared uplifting message to fans
At the restaurant, they stuck her in the kitchen although she was completely unqualified and didn’t even know how to chop a vegetable. Apparently, Kruger was so bad with the kitchen that her family used to tease her saying she would even burn boiling water. So what do you think happened to her next? Obviously, she got fired from the job in just three days.
Well, this firing changed her life again but in a more positive way. She took it upon herself to become a better cook and she did it. You won’t believe it but Kruger has created quite a following for herself on social media over the past few years as a food influencer. 2020’s covid-19 related lockdown gave her plenty of free time to hone her cooking skills.

“I started cooking everything and sharing it with you guys and you loved it. That’s where it all began,” Kruger marveled in her video.
The ex-Y&R actress has been totally focused on her family and her hobby for a couple of years now. She has not appeared in any movies and TV shows since becoming a mother back in September 2019. But she has not quit acting. She is always ready to hop into the CBS set whenever she gets called.
She ended her video with a strong, inspiring message for her fans. “I’m obviously a much better actor than I am a cook but with practice, anyone can become good at anything you love. Trust me,” she concluded. We are grateful to Kelly for sharing this story with us. And we really look forward to seeing her again on TV.
