Y&R Spoilers: Sharon breaks up with Chance | Heartbroken, leaves GC for a fresh start
It has been almost 3 decades of Sharon in the Young and the Restless. In these years, Sharon has transformed a lot from a young girl to a mom and boss lady. So today, let’s look back at Sharon’s journey in the show and see how far she has come in her life. Without any further ado, let’s jump right in.
New Year, New Sharon
As 2024 has arrived, we knew we were getting some new storylines. And starting the first week of this new year, we once again got Sharon back in the spotlight. She was the center of attraction on the January 5th episode. She got the full episode to herself and assures us there are others joining in as well, making it even more special.
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Case said, “The circumstances with each of those people were specific and there’s a lot of fun stuff. The vignettes I was doing with the other characters, you would never imagine in a million years. It was just some really fun, off-the-wall stuff. We all had a great time with it.”
So you know, this episode was everything we’ve been asking for. So let’s take a trip down memory lane on how far Sharon has come in Young & Restless.
The first time we met the beautiful actress Sharon Case in Young and the Restless was back in August 1994. She is one of the most dynamic actors that Y&R has ever seen which explains why the fans totally love her. I’m pretty sure many of you don’t remember that Case was actually the third actor to be cast as Sharon.
Before her, Monica Potter and Heidi Mark played the character, but they couldn’t pull off the character. So Case’s arrival was a total game changer for Sharon’s character. After being casted on the show, Case stated, “Not only is this my third soap, but I’m also the third actress to play the role of Sharon Collins. So, if three times is the charm, this should be it.” And guess what third time was indeed a charm, because 29 years later, she is still here.
Sharon Collin’s journey on YR has been nothing but beautiful
Case was just 23 years old when she stepped into the shoes of 18 year old Sharon. Nevertheless, Case seamlessly portrayed the character, navigating through complex storylines, including motherhood and the emotional turmoil of giving up a child for adoption. And let’s not forget the sizzling young love with Nicholas Newman that the fans still adore.
But Sharon wasn’t always a goody-two-shoes. She practically fell in love with anyone who showed her affection. And we can never forget when she kissed her father in law, Victor, and her romance with Jack Abbott. Thank god she got over dating men old enough to be her father.
One of Sharon’s most heart-pounding roles was when she became a fugitive, all thanks to her connection with the troublemaker, Adam Newman. Trying to prove his innocence landed her in jail for a murder she didn’t commit, while Adam walked away scot-free. The duo planned a daring escape to Sedona, Arizona, but at the last moment, Sharon chose to ditch Adam for his safety and went on a solo adventure. She took on a new identity, Sheri Coleman, and even started dating Sam Gibson. Of course, that didn’t last long, leading to Sharon’s capture and return to Genoa City.
But wait, there’s more! Adam found evidence to free Sharon but, learning about Sam, he destroyed the evidence, testified against her, and then proposed at the altar only to leave her hanging. So that was her fugitive era we all still love.
That’s not all, she also had health problems era as well. After her divorce with Jack, she started hallucinating and had several kleptomania episodes of the time she was on the run. She had bipolar disorder and even burned down the Newman ranch.
Then, Sharon’s storyline went from having mental problems to facing stage 2 breast cancer. The whole cancer storyline wasn’t a walk in the park for Sharon. She went through surgeries and chemo like a champ, and Case did an awesome job breaking down the stigma and showing how tough it is for people dealing with illnesses.

Everything aside, Sharon has faced some criticism on the show over the years for juggling too many romantic relationships. And apparently, even Sharon Case agrees! In a 2012 chat with Nelson Branco, she talked about being worried that Sharon was getting paired up with too many men. It took a hot minute for the writers to catch on, but after her hubby Rey Rosales bit the dust in April 2022, Sharon took a break from the love game until she hooked up with Chance Chancellor in July 2023.
In her love downtime, Sharon was hustling at the Crimson Lights Café, a spot she inherited from her ex, Dylan McAvoy. She was all about her business and went all out to make her daughter Mariah’s wedding with Tessa Porter a soap opera classic. Sharon’s thing with Chancellor, who’s 13 years younger, didn’t go as far as we thought, because she just broke up with Chance after failing to commit to their relationship.

What’s cool is that her love life hasn’t thrown her off her business game. While she’s managing her new gig, Kirsten Incorporated, we’ve got to give a shoutout to Case for pushing for a storyline where Sharon takes a breather from love drama and kills it as a businesswoman.
If Sharon continues to walk down the path she’s currently gotten on, where do you guys think she will land this 2024? What do you guys expect to see for Sharon on Y&R ? Let us know in the comments below.
