The Abbott family tree: Who’s who in the Abbott family on the Young and the Restless
In the early 80s, the Young and the Restless shifted their focus from the core families like the Brooks and Fosters to the Abbotts and the Newmans. And the drama that ensued from the rivalry between them has stood the test of time. Long time viewers may remember the rich history of these families but our younger viewers might not be so familiar with who’s who in Genoa City. The Abbotts are at the heart of the show’s biggest storylines, along with the Newmans. So today, let’s take a look at the powerful and wealthy Abbotts.
Jerry Douglas played the Abbott family patriarch, John Abbott
Family patriarch John Abbott led the Abbotts for years until his death in 2006, but he continued to make ghostly appearances to his family. His children Jack, Ashley, Traci and Billy butt heads from time to time but family always comes first for this staple Y&R family.
Let’s take a look at the family tree of one of the most popular families on the CBS daytime drama.
Jerry Douglas began playing the role of John Abbott in 1982 and last appeared on the soap in 2016. He was the founder of the Genoa City conglomerate, Jabot Cosmetics, which he ran with his children.
Even though his character was killed off in 2006, Jerry continued to appear on the show as a recurring guest star. Before Jerry’s death in November 2021, John frequently appeared as his eldest son, Jack’s inner conscience.

Jack Abbott was a real player back in his days
Jack Abbott is the eldest son of John Abbott from his first wife, Dina Mergeron. You could say that he is the golden child of the family. A Harvard graduate, Jack often feuded with his father over business deals and Jill Foster. Now here’s where things get complicated, so try to keep up.
After Dina left him, John began dating a much younger Jill Foster, but Jack wasn’t supportive of the relationship because of Jill’s dating history. But, Jack ended up having an affair with Jill. Now that’s not so bad, right? But they were romantically involved even after Jill married John and Jack was married to Patty Williams.
Jill and John remarried in 1993 and that’s when Billy Abbott came into the picture. Jack and Ashley ran Jabot while John was busy raising Billy but in 1999, he returned to Genoa City with Billy who was aged to 16 years old.
Abbott family tree
The black sheep of the family, Billy Abbott is a compulsive gambler and an overall hot mess, which is why he always seems to be in trouble. He has a daughter with Victoria Newman and a son, who he had from an affair with Chelsea Lawson. You may recall that he also had a daughter with Chloe, Delia Abbott, who died tragically in a car accident caused by Adam Newman.
Jack has two sons of his own but you may not even remember that he has a son named Keemo from an affair that he had in Vietnam. Meanwhile, his other son Kyle was a series regular on the show until recently. Kyle’s late mother, Diane Jenkins, initially thought he was Victor Newman’s child but it was later revealed that Jack was the real father. Not long ago, Kyle moved to Italy to be with his wife Summer, also taking his son, Harrison, with him.
Until recently, Summer Newman was portrayed by Hunter King but the role is being recast. Find out details on this in our video below:
John Abbott has two daughters
Let’s not forget John Abbott’s daughters, Ashley and Traci. As you know, Ashley Abbott is actually Dina’s daughter from her affair with Brent Davis. Ashley knew that she wasn’t John’s daughter but never let him know and always thought of him as a father. After working with family for years, Ashley moved to Paris to run her own cosmetics company.
We don’t see much of her now but she has been involved in a few dramatic storylines in her time, including stealing Victor Newman’s sperm so that she could secretly have his baby. And that’s Abby Newman, whom Ashley raised with her husband Brad Carlton. Recently, Abby gave her mom her first grandchild, Dominic Abbott Winters Newman Chancellor.
Meanwhile, unlike her business minded siblings, Traci grew up to be a successful romance novelist and traveled the world. Before Ashley and Brad were together, Traci was in love with Brad, which put a rift in the sisters’ relationship. She even had a daughter with him, Colleen, who passed away when she was a teenager. While Traci spends most of her time in New York, we do see her occasionally in Genoa City, playing the peacemaker between her siblings.
So that’s the Abbott family for you. We also have a video on the Newman and the Chancellor families that you do not want to miss. In the meantime, let us know in the comments who your favorite core family on the Young and the Restless is.
