Who is Amanda Sinclair? What happened to her on Y&R?
Amanda Sinclair is the twin sister of the long dead character of Young and the Restless, Hilary Curtis. Both roles are portrayed by the talented and Daytime Emmy-winning actress, Mishael Morgan. After Hilary’s death on Y&R, Morgan returned to the soap in September 2019 as Amanda Sinclair. Although Karla Mosley briefly filled in for Morgan in 2021 due to the actress’s eye surgery, Morgan continued to portray as the attorney. But following her historic Daytime Emmy win as the first black women to win in lead actress category in 2022, Morgan decided to step away from the soap, but she later returned for special occasions like the soap’s 50th anniversary in March 2023 and again in February 2024.
So, rewind to 2019, when Amanda first popped up in Genoa City, Devon was shocked to see his dead wife at his doorstep. But obviously, that wasn’t his wife, instead she introduced herself as an attorney representing Chance Chancellor in a legal battle over Katherine Chancellor’s will to pass almost all of her fortune to Devon. And poor Devon has a hard time taking in the situation, unable to shake the uncanny resemblance between Amanda and his late wife, Hilary.
But later, it turns out there was another version of will that left Devon out of the inheritance. Chance finds out from Katherine’s lawyer, David Sherman, who confesses on his deathbed that he was paid off by Tucker McCall to change the will. Devon’s freaking out, especially because Amanda, who looks just like his dead wife Hilary, is the one breaking the news. Amanda sympathizes and hands him her card.

Then, Amanda holds a reading of the “real” will, and guess what? It leaves most of Katherine’s fortune to Cane Ashby! Everyone’s suspicious of Amanda, especially with her resemblance with Hilary. But when the will’s proven legit, Amanda plans to skip town because of all the hate she’s getting. But Nate asks her to stay and represent him in court to save his medical license.
Amanda helps Nate beat the charges and keep practicing medicine. And despite some skepticism from Elena and Devon, Nate’s got her back. Meanwhile, she’s been spilling her guts to Billy at a dive bar, revealing she’s an orphan who grew up in foster care. Devon, on the other hand, starts snooping into her past and finds out she paid to erase herself from the internet. Oh, and she’s got a fiancé named Ripley Turner, and they’ve both taken out restraining orders against each other.
So, Amanda’s feeling guilty about being friends with Billy and how it messed up his marriage with Victoria. But when her ex, Ripley, shows up claiming he’s changed, things get messy. Ripley ends up stabbing Victoria, thinking she’s Amanda, and Billy’s there to support her through the chaos. After a platonic sleepover, he takes a leap and kisses her.
Meanwhile, Amanda is getting closer and creating friendships with Phyllis and Nate. She also opened up to Nate about her past in the foster home and confesses she’s been too scared to dig into her own history. Despite the chemistry, she decides to keep Billy in the friend zone and then joined Chancellor’s media as legal counsel.
But things took a turn, when Nate found out that she shared the same DNA with Hilary. So, Amanda decides to to find her real identity. Devon helps her run a DNA test, and turns out, she had a twin sister she never knew about. Devon fills Amanda in on Hilary’s life, and they start growing closer, especially after his split with Elena.

So, Amanda decides to track down her and Hilary’s birth mother, Naya Benedict. But when she tries to reach out, she discovers Naya has another daughter she never gave up for adoption. Eventually, Amanda makes contact with Naya and learns how their religious family forced her to give up the twins at birth. Amanda tells Naya that Hilary died in a car accident, just like their father, Richard.
At first, Amanda’s hesitant to bond with Naya, especially when Naya wants to keep their relationship secret from the family. But they start getting closer, and Naya asks Amanda to represent her grandfather, Sutton Ames, who’s accused of causing the accident that killed Richard. Meanwhile, Amanda’s relationship with Devon hits a rough patch when she finds out he cheated on her with Elena. She gives him an ultimatum, and they eventually patch things up.
As Amanda dives into her family drama, her sister Imani warns her it’s a mistake. And turns out, she’s right. Amanda discovers their father hired a personal investigator to find them, but he was killed before he could meet them. Amanda suspects Sutton had a hand in Richard’s death to protect the family, but then Naya confesses to the crime. Reluctantly, Amanda takes on Naya’s case but ultimately proves Sutton murdered her father.
Amanda and Imani decided to team up in business, deepening their bond as sisters, especially when Naya suffered a stroke. Amidst family turmoil, Amanda also confessed her love to Devon and moved in with him. She agreed to testify against Sutton in court and was relieved when he was convicted. The sisters then joined forces with Lily and Billy at Chancellor.
However, tensions arose when Amanda caught Imani trying to steal Nate from Elena. When Naya had a stroke, Devon encouraged Amanda to be with her mother. After trading off with Imani in Virginia, Amanda returned to Genoa City and resumed her work at Chancellor-Winters, reconnecting with Devon. But when Naya fell into a coma, Devon promised to handle things while Amanda was away.
Their long-distance relationship hit a snag, and when Amanda returned home unexpectedly, she found Devon in bed with Abby. Furious at his betrayal, Amanda refused to give him another chance and left for Virginia to be with her mother. In March 2023, Amanda came back to Genoa City at Lily’s request to represent Chancellor-Winters in court. The case involved Devon’s attempt to reclaim Hamilton-Winters before the merged company could go public. Once the matter was resolved, Amanda left town once more. Finally in February 2024, she made her much awaited comeback, this time representing Jill.
