Who is Lily Winters? What Happened to her in Y&R?
Lily Winters was first introduced in Young and the Restless, portrayed by child actors. Then, in 2002 when Lily was turned into a teenager, Christel Khalil joined the show but in 2005 she left the show. So, Davetta Sherwood stepped in briefly in 2005, but Khalil always found her way back and returned on 2006. She was then on a recurring status from 2018 but returned full-time by 2020. Then, she had a little hiatus for maternity leave in December 2023, but by March 2024, she was back to stir up more trouble on screen!
When Dru had Lily, she let Neil think he was the dad, but it was actually his brother Malcolm. Their relationship was shaky, and Dru split to Paris with Lily. When they came back in 2002, it helped Neil quit his drinking habit. Lily then met Kevin Fisher online and gave her STD. She then, became friends with Devon, a troubled teen, and Neil and Dru ended up taking him in as their foster kid and later adopted him.
Malcolm returned to Genoa City, feeling bitter towards Neil and suspicious about Lily’s true biological dad. She fell for Daniel Romalotti, but they had to go on the run when he got charged with vehicular manslaughter. After they were brought back home, Daniel was cleared, but Lily got sent off to boarding school. When she returned for Devon’s birthday, she reunited with Daniel and they eloped. Lily was shocked to overhear Phyllis and Dru say she was Malcolm’s daughter, which she later shared with Neil. Then, her world shattered when her mom was presumed dead, and her marriage with Daniel fell apart due to his porn addiction.
Lily had a thing for Cane Ashby, but he was wary due to their age gap. However, that didn’t last, and they fell deeply in love. Trouble brewed when Chloe claimed she was carrying Cane’s child (actually Billy Abbott’s), leading to a split. But once the truth surfaced, they patched things up and got hitched. Despite identity woes, Lily’s ovarian cancer diagnosis brought them closer. Some of Lily’s eggs were saved, and Mackenzie Browning offered to be their surrogate. Twins, Charlie and Mattie, were born, and Lily went into remission.
Tragedy struck when Cane was shot and died, or so she thought. Discovering Cane alive and it was actually his twin brother , Caleb, who died, it left her feeling betrayed. Despite a brief temptation to return to Daniel, Lily couldn’t resist Cane’s love, and they remarried on Valentine’s Day. They both worked at Jabot Cosmetics, where Cane got a tad jealous of Tyler Michaelson’s attention towards Lily. But she only had eyes for her hubby!

Lily grew suspicious of Cane’s assistant, Hilary Curtis, and eventually found out she was trying to harm Neil. So you can imagine her shock when Neil fell for Hilary after she had a change of heart. Lily’s opinion of Hilary continued to plummet when she began an affair with Devon. Despite rough patches, Lily and Cane worked through their marital issues, including her affair with Joe Clark.
Their happiness faced another threat when Cane got drunk on a business trip and slept with Juliet Helton in Hong Kong. Lily was devastated, especially when Juliet discovered she was pregnant. Tragically, Juliet died during childbirth, leaving Cane to raise their son, Sam, with Lily. Furious to learn that Hilary had manipulated Juliet into suing Cane, Lily disapproved when Devon offered to help Hilary fulfill her dream of having a baby.
While arguing with a pregnant Hilary in the car, Lily accidentally ran a red light, leading to a fatal crash that took Hilary and her unborn child’s lives. Devastated, Devon vowed to make Lily pay, but ultimately showed leniency. However, Lily still faced a year in prison, struggling with her sentence and eventually deciding to end her marriage with Cane. After her father’s sudden death, Lily left Genoa City to teach inmates, returning briefly for family events. She then returned to work with Jill Abbott and Billy at Chancellor’s, where romance blossomed between Lily and Billy.
Amidst accusations against Billy, Lily stood by him and helped clear his name. Despite some rocky moments, Lily and Billy’s relationship progressed, even as they faced challenges from Victoria and their business ventures. Lily’s efforts to merge companies with Devon led to tensions with Billy, who eventually left his podcast to support her. They considered expanding into the hotel business but faced setbacks with Phyllis and Nate’s departures.
Working together, Lily and Devon took their company public, but faced betrayal when Nate confessed to leaking information. Lily had to manage personnel changes, including Billy and Amanda’s resignations. While understanding of Billy’s support for Chelsea, Lily grew frustrated with his prioritization of Chelsea over their relationship.
Lily was taken aback by Daniel’s return to Genoa City, especially when he found out about her relationship with Billy. Their relationship was strained, prompting Lily to suggest couples counseling, which didn’t yield much improvement. Eventually, she proposed a temporary separation. Lily then enlisted Daniel to work on his gaming platform for Chancellor-Winters, complicating matters when Devon opposed taking the company public.

Amidst legal disputes over Hamilton-Winters, Lily and Devon found themselves on opposing sides, hiring Christine and Amanda respectively. Victor’s investment in Chancellor-Winters led to Jill canceling plans for going public, but Devon remained resistant to working with Lily until they reconciled at the dedication of the Neil Winters Jazz Lounge, leading Devon to drop the lawsuit.
Initially keeping their relationship platonic, Lily and Daniel eventually reignited their romance. Lily moved into Devon’s former penthouse when Devon and Abby moved into the Chancellor mansion, while Daniel found his own place in the same building. Daniel’s concerns about his ex and daughter returning to town were met with Lily’s reassurance. The surprise return of Mamie Johnson revealed her as Chancellor-Winters’ secret investor, sparking tension as Lily and Devon resisted her attempts to involve Nate in the business. However, they considered reconciling with Nate upon learning of Mamie’s association with Tucker McCall.
Things were going well until Lily got a call that there had been a brush fire near Mattie’s school and she left town to be with her daughter during the traumatic time. Unfortunately, when she returned home in March 2024, she walked in on a happy family scene of Daniel having breakfast with Heather and Lucy! Once alone with Daniel, she was stunned when he confirmed that he and Heather had grown closer while she was away and they’d slept together!
