Sheila Carter is alive but who did Steffy Forrester Kill that night?
Who is Neil Winters? What Happened to him in Y&R?
Neil Winters was a beloved character on The Young & the Restless, portrayed by Kristoff St. John, who won two Daytime Emmy Awards for his role. With his introduction in 1991, Neil quickly became integral to the show’s storyline, often involved in complex romantic relationships. However, St. John’s untimely death in February 2019 brought an abrupt end to Neil’s journey on the show, though both the character and the actor are fondly remembered by fans.
Back in 1991, Neil Winters started out at Jabot Cosmetics and got all tangled up in a love quadrangle involving Nathan Hastings, Olivia Barber, and Drucilla. Nathan and Olivia were a thing, but Dru had her sights set on Nathan, so she roped Neil into breaking them up. He ended up falling for Olivia himself, but eventually Dru stole his heart, and they tied the knot in 1993 at the Chancellor estate.
Things got even messier in 1994 when Neil’s half-brother, Malcolm Winters, showed up and started eyeing Dru. After a wild night involving cold medicine, Dru and Malcolm slept with each other and got pregnant with Lily. With the paternity uncertain, Dru and Malcolm decided to let Neil raise Lily regardless. But their marriage hit the rocks when Dru wanted a modeling career and Neil wanted her to be a mom. They split, and Dru jetted off to Paris with Lily.
Neil’s love life stayed rocky. He almost made it down the aisle with Victoria but never quite got there. Then he rekindled things with Olivia and nearly crossed the line with Malcolm’s fiancée, Alex. After his best friend Ryan McNeil’s murder, Neil hit the bottle hard before pulling himself together.
Fast forward to 2002, and Dru was back with Lily in tow. They reunited, remarried, and even adopted a troubled teen named Devon Hamilton. But things got complicated when Neil learned Malcolm was Lily’s real dad, leading to a messy breakup with Dru and an affair with Carmen Mesta. But sadly, Dru fell over the edge of cliff during the photoshoot and her body was never found. After the death of Dru, Neil went back to alcohol, but he stopped drinking when he saw how it was affecting Lily.

Later on, Neil tried things out with Karen Taylor but ended up hooking up with Tyra Hamilton, Devon’s aunt. That whole mess led to some serious drama, including a custody battle of Devon’s half sister, Ana Hamilton. Tyra won the custody at the end. Neil, then, eventually landed a CEO spot at the Chancellor Industries and had flings with Ashley Abbott and Malcolm’s fiancé, Sofia Dupree. Then Sofia gave birth to Moses and it was revealed that Neil was his biological dad. Malcom divorced Sofia and left town.
Neil then took in Sofia and their son, and they eventually got married. However, Neil’s flirtation with Harmony Hamilton caused their marriage to fall apart quickly. Once Harmony departed, Neil had a brief affair with Leslie. When he became the target of someone seeking revenge, Leslie assisted him in uncovering the truth. Neil recalled a woman who had passed away after a night of drinking, and it turned out her daughter, Hilary Curtis, who had out for him. Neil managed to have a heartfelt conversation with Hilary, convincing her to forgive him and abandon her plans for revenge. But his romance with Leslie hit a dead end when she wouldn’t commit to marriage.
After Neil split from Leslie and found out she had tied the knot, he jumped into a relationship with Hilary. But their wedding was far from a fairy tale – hardly anyone approved, and only Devon showed up. Things took a wild turn when Neil got electrocuted, went blind, and asked Devon to look out for Hilary. But that backfired big time when he caught them together once his sight returned!
Even after surviving a plane crash, Neil and Devon couldn’t bury the hatchet, prompting Hilary to play the “I never loved either of you” card in a bid to mend fences. But when she and Devon tied the knot, Neil showed the bride a video of Devon with a hooker. She stormed off, went MIA, and Neil rescued her, going to extreme lengths to save her life. She also had amnesia and fell back for Neil until her memory returned.
Feeling the weight of his actions, Neil owned up to his drinking problem and checked himself into rehab. He even reconnected with his long-lost mom, Lucinda, before she kicked the bucket. Then he and Devon became business partners, launching Hamilton Winters Group.
